Upgrading from previous versions

It is very important that you follow the correct path for your system. Choosing an incorrect upgrade path will leave your system corrupt.
Regardless of your current version, make sure to back up any graphical changes you have done to any of the portals or login forms.
The system will not be responsive during the upgrade, therefore an upgrade has to be carefully planned before it is executed.

Upgrading from 8.x to 9

Due to changes of the prerequisites - it is recommended to first take a backup of current version and uninstall it.
  1. Start Pointsharp ID Admin GUI.

  2. Make a backup of the current configuration: File > Backup The configuration will be saved.

  3. Close Pointsharp ID Admin GUI.

  4. Manually uninstall the current version of ID Server and its components by using Add and remove programs in Windows.

  5. When the uninstallation is complete, reboot the server.

  6. Install Pointsharp ID Server version 9 by following the installation instructions.

If you execute the installer and let it handle the upgrade, it will uninstall the current version. However, after uninstallation, you will get a message regarding missing prerequisites and will need to abort installation and install the prerequisites first.

Upgrading from 7.2.4 to 8.0

  1. Start Pointsharp ID Admin GUI.

  2. Make a backup of the current configuration: File > Backup The configuration will be saved. Do not use this backup to restore on version 8.0.

  3. Close Pointsharp ID Admin GUI.

  4. Manually uninstall ID Server and its components by using Add and remove programs in Windows. Make sure you choose to uninstall the Pointsharp 7.2.4 item that includes all components.

  5. When the uninstallation is complete, reboot the server.

  6. Install Pointsharp ID using the Pointsharp 8.0.exe installer.

Upgrading from 6.x.x - 7.2.3 to 8.0

  1. Start Pointsharp ID Admin GUI.

  2. Make a backup of the current configuration (the configuration will be saved, do not use this backup to restore on version 8.0).

  3. Close Pointsharp ID Admin GUI.

  4. Launch the Pointsharp 8.0.exe installer.
